Holiday Flare

Some of you may have seen my tablescape over at my sister's blog - My Computer is My Canvas.  She was the one who inspired me to decorate for the holidays.  I am not the type to decorate the whole house for the holidays.  I just want a splash of holiday flare so I stick to decorating my dinning room table with a fun tablescape.  Throwing together some holiday flare is easy.  Here's what I like to do . . .

I love to decorate with food.  When I was looking for some St Patrick's Day decorations, there was not much to be found so I headed for the produce section of the grocery store where the limes caught my eye.  Since I was going for a green motif, limes were perfect.  Then I headed to the candy section and the Skittles wrapper caught my eye because of the rainbow.  These two items are not what you would normally think of when decorating for St Patty's Day, but because I was thinking outside the box I found some awesome additions to my tablescape. 

These little pots of gold are my favorite part of the tablescape.  They are actually cauldrons that I purchased during the Halloween season last year just for this purpose.  All I had to do was add some Rolos and some cute ribbon and the cauldrons were transformed.  I am always on the look out for some simple decorations that will make a fun addition to my tablescape all year round.

St Patty's Day Word Blocks

One of my favorite holiday decorations is a set of Halloween stackable word blocks.  I picked them up a few years ago and can't wait to get them out every Halloween.  I have always wanted a set for every holiday, but was never able to find anything similar.  So, while I was "pinning" one night, the thought popped into my mind to make my own.  I wished I would have thought of this years ago.  

This project was quick, easy and fun.  In fact it was so easy that I was able to complete my blocks while my 7 week old baby took a nap snugged up in his BABYBJORN sling.  All you need is some wooden blocks (bought and cut at the local Home Depot), paint, sand paper, Mod Podge and the DIY Printable available for purchase in my Etsy Shop.

I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and am lucky enough to be involved with the Young Women's program.  That means I get to spend my time with the 12 - 18 year old girls of the church.  Each year, there is a common theme that is used church wide for teaching the girls standards and values.  This year the theme is Arise and Shine Forth.  We, as YW leaders, wanted to give the girls something to keep with them through out the year to remember this theme and what's better than chapstick.  I love all the chapstick covers ideas from My Computer Is My Canvas so used them to create our own custom chapstick labels.  I didn't just stop there, I created a bookmark to give at a later date and a Subway Art Poster to hang on our bulletin board.  We are so excited for this years theme and to give the girls these fun handouts throughout the year.

Anniversary Subway Art

My hubby and I are celebrating 11 years today - YEAH for us!!!  My hubby and I wish that our anniversary was on a different date because our special day seems to get lost in all the holiday celebrations.  So over the years it seems our anniversary slides by almost unnoticed.  This morning was no exception.  At least I remembered to tell him Happy Anniversary just as he was walking out the door for work. 

Even though we always tell each other "NO GIFTS,"  I felt a little bad about not even getting a babysitter so we could enjoy a nice dinner together.  SO I got my thinking cap on and started to plan a special dinner at home.    I started my planning by making our Anniversary Subway Art and was so please with how it turned out.  Then the kids and I went shopping to get some Sparkling Apple Cider (my hubby's fav) and Nothing Bundt Cakes for dessert.  I came home, set the table (table cloth and all) made dinner and waited for my hubby's surprised look when he walked in the door from work.  The best part of dinner - Bread Stick Twists.  You can see how to make them HERE in Pintrest.

Witching you a Haunting Halloween! - Printable

Halloween is in full swing at my house.  Costumes have been picked out and purchased, candy has been bought and stashed away so we don't eat it all before Halloween, decorations are up and we are counting down the last 13 days until the big day.   

Every year, I put together a big themed Halloween Dinner for my family and go all out on food and decorations.  I can't wait.  Since most of my dinner plans are already coming together, I decided to add to the celebrations by making  a Halloween themed lunch for them to take to school.  Nothing big, just a PB&J ghost sandwiches (using a cookie cutter with make these a breeze), orange yogurt with candy corn sprinkles and orange cheese balls -  a huge treat for my kids since we usually leave them on the shelves at the store.  I made a cute Halloween Treat Topper to finish off their surprise.

These treat topper can be used to top any treat.  However, I am partial to the orange cheese balls, they kind of look like small pumpkins to me.

My Halloween Star

Not everything I make is digital.  In fact for this craft, I found myself browsing through a traditional scrapbook store, drooling at all the fun paper to choose from. 

I originally saw this idea on Pintrest and knew that I needed to make this star ASAP.  While my mom was in town for a visit, we went searching for the perfect star and Halloween paper.  It was a fun afternoon shopping with her.  We then came home and made it in an afternoon.  It was one of the easiest crafty projects I have done.  In fact, it was so easy, I finished my Christmas Star on the same day.  

All you need for this craft is . . .

• 1 Rustic Star (I found mine at Hobby Lobby)
• 9-12 coordinating scrap booking papers
• Modge Podge
• Spray Glitter (my new love)
• Coordinating Ribbon

Start off by making a template of your star sides - one for the right side and one for the left side.  I just used a piece of white card stock to do this.  Then start cutting out the pieces of scrapbook paper to glue on.  Tape the cut pieces of paper to the star to make sure you have picked the right place for each piece of paper.  Remove the tape, and modge podge the paper to the star.  Then modge podge on top on the paper to add a protective layer.  Once the modge podge has dried, take outside and spray the star with the glitter.  Let it dry for a few hours.  Add your cute ribbon and voila, you're done.  Easy Peesy Lemon Squeezey!!!
